Eileen Sheridan Plague
On Monday 21st October 2024, the Coventry Society erected a plague to commemorate cycling legend Eileen Sherdian. Erected on the wall at Coventry Rugby Club, Butts Stadium previously the velodrome where Eileen won many races.
Eileen Sherdian (nee Shaw) was a prolific racing cyclist who became a household name in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s She was a multiple cycling champion with a long list of achievements.
Born in Coventry, Eileen began cycling at the age of 15, at 4ft 11” (150cm) she became known as “The Mighty Atom”.
Eileen passed away in February 2023 at the age of 99.
The plague was jointly funded by the Coventry Society and Coventry Cycling Club with whom she was life member and president.
